Transverse plane deformity of the lesser metatarsal phalangeal joints is commonly seen and treated, yet often a full understanding of the pathology is not appreciated. This presentation reviews the history of treatment, current concepts in the understanding of the pathomechanics causing the pathology, as well as treatment options from conservative to surgical. A detailed description of the surgical approach is presented as well as possible complications.

Dr. Dolce presents a comprehensive overview of the current forms and applications of absorbable fixation. A quick history and philosophy of resorbable fixation is provided. Commonly asked questions regarding the subject are answered, and the surgical applications are presented. The lecture ends with a case presentation of a closing wedge base osteotomy utilizing absorbable fixation.
