According to the Department of Veterans Affairs, the prevalence of diabetes among VA patients is one in six, or 16%. As a chronic medical condition among many diabetes patients, it is estimated that 15-25% will develop a foot ulcer in their lifetime, putting them at a 14-24% risk for lower limb amputation if not managed properly, and with that a 45% chance of death within five years. In fact, the VA reports that three-fourths of the more than 5,900 lower-extremity amputations that occurred in VA care in 1999 were in patients with diabetes.

“Diabetic foot ulceration and associated amputations are a very serious problem among the VA community. By increasing awareness among the healthcare providers treating these individuals of the severity of DFUs and the need to achieve wound closure quickly and efficiently, we can help limit the number of amputations that will result from this disease,” said Dean Tozer, Senior Vice President at ABH. “PRESENT e-Learning Systems is committed to improving the knowledge and skill of medical professionals throughout the world by providing high quality medical education programs. We are excited to be partnering with PRESENT e-Learning Systems to help make these programs available to our customers.”
